SMETHWICK FUNERAL SERVICES

In 1966 Stephen Godber left his native Derbyshire to start work as a qualified Funeral Director and Embalmer at a local Funeral Home. He joined Smethwick Rotary Club and became very involved with Smethwick Physically Handicapped Club (Mencap) and served as a school governor for many years. He was a keen singer and musician and raised money for many local charities. 

22 years later in 1988 he made the decision to form his own independent, family run funeral directors in Smethwick along side his wife Jean. He was joined in partnership by Peter Gaunt of F.P Gaunt & Sons Blackheath. Together they refurbished the former Register and Probation Office on Smethwick High Street, restoring it to its former glory. This is now Maben House Funeral Home. Stephen Godber's motto was "Dedicated to Service" and this remains today where the staff at Stephen Godber Funerals Ltd strive to serve its clients with the highest levels of care and dignity.
